About Me
That's me to the left, probably after one too many ciders. If you're interested in knowing a little bit about me, here's a quick biography.
I was born in 1989 in Surrey, England — a county bordering London, for those who don't know — and have lived in the area all my life. My mother is English through and through, but my father is the son of 1930's Irish immigrants to England. People often attribute my drinking escapades on the Irish blood flowing through my veins, yet (disappointingly for some) I don't have an Irish accent.
I studied for a bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Southampton University between 2007 and 2010 but I didn't graduate — it didn't work out for me, but I don't regret my days as a student for one minute. Just don't mention the debt.
My interest in web development began when I was about 14 years old when I started dabbling with making websites, not long after first getting an internet connection in our house. My first taste of the industry first-hand was at school when I did a fortnight's work experience at a local firm. Afterwards they offered me the opportunity to work over the summer holidays, and for the next couple of years, I built up my web design and development skills, teaching myself hand-coded HTML and CSS, as well as PHP and MySQL. In 2008, the same company was then bought out by a company based in Dorset, where I continued to work remotely whilst living in Southampton. After leaving university, I went to work for a design agency based on the Hampshire/Surrey border, where I worked on some brilliant and exciting projects. I was here for 8 months before moving onto my current position as an in-house web developer for an air conditioning company.
Moving onto my love for music — I am truly passionate about it, in particular rock, but I am partial to other genres namely a number of electronic subgenres — house, electronica, drum and bass and dubstep. Fusions of these genres are in my eyes the best of both worlds. I own a considerably large collection of music that I have built up over the years and reguarly attend concerts at venues across London and go to festivals over the summer (when money and spare time allows).
My other passion is genealogy. I initially began research into my family tree with only a passing interest around 5 years ago, but picked it up about a year after with serious enthusism. It's now turned into a time-consuming hobby but one I still greatly enjoy — even when I hit brick walls in my research. It's a very rewarding experience and one that I recommend to everyone. As someone who is a very family-oriented person, finding out my roots and keeping in touch with family members is something I feel is very important for myself, and future generations.
That's me done. Enjoy the site.
